SUMMARY:M4i - a processed-based semantic metadata model for documenting engineering research data
DESCRIPTION:Event for participants with no prior knowledge in semantic technologies. Familiarity with the challenges of documenting research data in a consistent and interoperable manner is beneficial.\nData documentation via metadata plays a major role in any research project and metadata is the key to finding and understanding even your own data. In addition, it provides a reliable record for future references and enables reuse and reproduction of results.\nIn order to enable FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) use of research data, the documentation needs to follow standardized norms and be machine-actionable. For this, semantic models offer a wide range of benefits. Different metamodel schemas exist today, designed and developed for different purposes and disciplines. However, in many cases the vocabularies and their semantic definitions and formalizations do not fit actual engineering applications.\nMetadata4Ing (m4i) is an ontology based metamodel schema for process-based description of research, focusing on the provenance of both data and material objects.Metadata4Ing is intended as a general process model applicable to engineering and many other disciplines and focuses on general concepts like in- and output, employed methods and tools as well as the investigated entity, reusing terms of existing ontologies where possible.\nThis workshop will not only provide insight into m4i but also demonstrate the benefits of having common semanticlinkage among different metamodels in the documentation process.\nThe topics that will be covered in the workshop include:\n\nbenefits of using semantic metadata\n(minimal) introduction to semantic data\noverview of the m4i metamodel schema\nhow m4i provides semantic links to other existing metamodels designed for documenting meta-, para-, and provenance data practical application of m4i to examples\n\nLecturers: Ashish Karmacharya\nTarget audience: Scientific Staff\nDate: 11.07.2022 13:30 - 15:00 Uhr\nTool used: Zoom\nRegistration: Registration until 24h before the start of the workshop via Cituro.\nFurther information you will find here.\nVisual material: here.
